Meet Amanda

Hello everyone!

My name is Amanda Majuri from Turku, Finland and I am an active member of Finnish organisation Nuoret Kotkat.

Nuoret Kotkat (Young Falcons), well officially known as Nuorten Kotkien Keskusliitto (NKK), is 75 years old organisation. It is a member organisation of IFM-SEI. NKK aims to organise safe and affordable events for all children in local, national and international levels. It also support children and youth to be co-operative, active and responsible citizens. Everything NKK does is based in labour movement values which are: equality, democracy, internationalism, justice, solidarity and community spirit (groupwork more or less). Mainly everything is organised by volunteers.

I have been part of Nuoret Kotkat for around 14 years in one way or another - first as a participant, then as an assistant leader and later as a leader both in national and international level. Our values are really shaping the way I think.

Internationally I have been active since 2014 but most of my international activism has been during the past one and a half years - I have gotten more and more opportunities to grow as a person, meet new people and most of all to get more knowledge to share within my own organisation. In addition to the international work I am part of NKK’s educational and international task forces, and regional and national board.

After I graduated from high school in 2017 I had a gap year. I travelled, worked in Lapland with Santa, travelled some more, attended IFM-SEI trainings and spend my summer as an au pair in Spain. After that in September 2018 I started studying in the faculty of Physics and Astronomy in University of Turku. To be honest with you I really didn’t like it nor did I study that much... Somehow I ended up travelling quite a lot. In February 2019 I realised that is not what I want to do and I quit it.

Before really quitting university during new years I decided to combine two of my favourite things - all of the things NKK/IFM brings into my life and travelling - and apply to be the next EVC volunteer in Kinderfreunde. The rest is history.

When asked from other people what I’m like, they say I am positive, open minded and friendly. I’d like to add to the list that I stress very easy, that I am determined and I always try my best when someone trusts me enough to give me a task - I consider it a privilege to be trusted enough. Other than volunteering I dance folk dance and downhill ski whenever possible.

I hope you get the chance to meet me and to share your best practises and games! I for sure cannot wait to meet you!

Love,

Amanda
